Dry Needling
Dry Needling
Dry needling is an efficient treatment which involves insertion of filiform (acupuncture) needles into muscle to release myofascial trigger points (sensitive spots in muscles).
This is a highly skilled western style needling technique and has been adapted from traditional eastern needling styles and acupuncture.
Solid, sterile filament needles are used and unlike other techniques dry needling is essentially pain-free. Dry needling does not focus on the chinese meridians (as it does in acupuncture) but rather focuses on stimulating altered or dysfunctional structures to:
- Decrease pain
- Improve quality of movement
- Increase range of movement
Get Active Physiotherapists specialise in dry needling and have been trained in the specific orthopaedic and neurodynamic screening techniques to optimise our patients results.
The results commonly found after appropriate treatment session is as effective and in some cases more effective than manual therapy without the ‘post treatment muscle soreness’
